Looking Toward Sunday, April 17, 2016

This Sunday marks the fourth Sunday of Easter. It’s easy to forget, when the plastic eggs are put away and the remnants of Easter grass were long ago vacuumed, that the season of Eastertide lasts 50 days. So, while the world has reoriented toward bathing suit shopping and summer vacation planning, in Christ’s church we continue to bump into Jesus fresh from the tomb. In this week’s scripture, the disciples have encountered resurrected Jesus a couple of times now, and this Sunday they’ll join Jesus for breakfast on the beach. But before that, these former fishermen have returned to the daily grind. Jesus is alive! He was dead and is alive, and they’ve gone back to their normal 9-5 fishing job!! How can they be doing the same ol’ thing, in light of the miracle they have witnessed?

Join us this Sunday as we ask the questions: What difference does the resurrection make for my life? And what does dynamic discipleship look like? This Sunday, we also celebrate the ordination and installation of DHPC’s newest elder, Suzette Stewart.

  • Focal Scripture:     John 21:1-14
  • Worship Focus:     “Business as Unusual”
  • Next Sunday:        Genesis 1 (Earth Sunday)

As those called to be fishers of people, let us imagine together how we might fish these local waters in a way that gathers the greatest catch to celebrate, know, and witness to our life-giving God.

See you Sunday,
