This week’s submission for our Burning Questions about the Bible series felt like a big challenge for about 20 minutes of scriptural exploration. Not quite a question, the request read, “I’ve always wanted to know more about the beatitudes.” (In case you’ve forgotten about the beatitudes, it’s the list of the blessed, from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Blessed are the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek . . .)
It is a hopeful text for those who are vulnerable and about the difficult business of working towards the kingdom of God. It’s a challenging text for those that society elevates and celebrates.
Join us as we explore the context of this piece of Jesus’ most famous sermon and wrestle with what it means for the world, for us, and for God’s eternal realm.
- Focal Scripture – Matthew 5:3-12
- Exploration – “What Do I Need to Know about the Beatitudes?”
We will also pray for our youth as they head out to the Montreat Youth Conference.
See you in the pews,
