Last fall, we spent several weeks exploring the call stories of Old Testament Bible characters. This week, we embark upon a 5 week series, with the theme Call to Action. Together we’ll explore the work of God upon the lives of members of the earliest Christian Church, found in the book of the Acts of the Apostles. This is a great opportunity to acquaint ourselves with some of our big name disciple/apostles, like Peter and Paul, as well as get to know some more minor players who were integral in spreading Christ’s story from Jerusalem and out into the world. (We’ll meet Lydia, Ananias, Cornelius, and Silas.) The start of a new year is an ideal time to listen for God’s call in our lives and to respond with acts/action of our own.
This week, we pick up at the beginning of Acts. It’s just after Jesus has ascended to heaven, and the disciples are wondering what’s next for them and their ministry. Plus, they need to fill the spot vacated by Judas. I hope you’ll join us as we read about Matthias joining the team in a pretty unconventional way (basically drawing straws).
- Scripture: Acts 1:12-26
- Sermon Title: “Call to Prayer”
The start of a new year is a wonderful time to recommit yourself to your walk with God and to invite others along on the journey. I hope to see you on Sunday. Bring a friend.
