On Wednesday, March 14 (one month after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, in Parkland, FL), students across the country will participate in the National School Walkout. They will leave their classes at 10 AM and remain in remembrance and protest for 17 minutes (one minute per life lost in the Ash Wednesday shooting).
We at DHPC wondered what we could do to support and stand in solidarity with our students. And we knew our actions should be in community. So we invite you to join us for free coffee at San Francisco Coffee, 676 N. Highland Ave. NE, behind The Plaza Theater. We’ll buy from 10-10:17 AM, but welcome you to stick around or hit the road. It’s a chance for those of us who are not in school to pause our days, at home or work, to remember the lives lost, to mark that loss in community, and to begin conversations about how we work for peace. We hope that wherever you are at 10 AM, on March 14, you will pause, and pray, and promise to work for peace through sensible gun legislation. But if you happen to be in our neck of the woods, we hope you’ll do your pausing, praying and promising with us, over a cup of coffee.
