It seems like we just rang in the new year … just observed Lent … just celebrated Easter. And yet, the school year is drawing to a close and with it our 2018-2019 programmatic year. But we’re wrapping up the spring in style and with some fun. Please join us for our Special Music Sunday led by our Chancel and Bell Choirs. The “sermon” comes to us in the form of Francesco Durante’s Magnificat. Durante was considered to be one of the greatest composers of his time and his Magnificat, six movements inspired by Luke 1:46-55, features the choir and soloists accompanied by the organ. In his setting Durante incorporates different musical themes, which you can hear repeated throughout the work. The choir will then sing Faithful Over a Few Things by Glenn T. Burleigh, which focuses on being steadfast in your faith. Our stories and liturgy dive into the great tradition of prophetic song in our scriptures.
Following worship I hope you’ll join us for the BBQ on the lawn. Bring a side dish or dessert to share (or just show up). This is a great Sunday to sport your DHPC t-shirt or polo as we enjoy some good food and good play together.
I look forward to basking in the beauty of the music with you and the joy of corn hole, bubbles, and some good ol’ DHPC home cooking under the tents on the lawn.
Looking joyfully towards Sunday,
