The Session of Druid Hills Presbyterian Church

Every Presbyterian church has a governing council which is called the Session.  As described by the Book of Order, which is the constitution of all Presbyterian churches, the Session has “responsibility for governing the congregation and guiding its witness to the sovereign activity of God in the world, so that the congregation is and becomes a community of faith, hope, love, and witness.”

The Session consists of elders who have been elected to that office by the congregation.  The Session also includes the pastor, who serves as its convener and moderator, as well as a clerk, who is the administrator of the Session, keeping its records and assisting with coordination and communication within the Session and to/from the congregation’s members.

In our church, the elders on the Session are leaders of various ministry teams that coordinate the administration and various ministries of the church.  Those ministry teams are Christian Education, Congregational Life, Finance, Mission, Personnel, Property and Administration, and Worship.  The congregation elects elders during annual congregational meetings.  Half of the Session elders are elected each year, alternately serving two year terms.

For further explanation or to ask questions, you are invited to contact the Clerk of the Session, currently Ken Wideman.
