One of the things that I have been reminded of about Frank Merl in the last days of reflecting on his life alongside his loved ones is that he was a man who lived the motto, “Be prepared.” While so many long to gather to celebrate and remember his life, and to grieve and worship together, we have determined that right now, the responsible thing in the face of the unknowns of Covid-19 is to “be prepared.” To that end, the service of witness to the resurrection for Frank Harkins Merl has been cancelled for this Saturday, March 14.
This service will be rescheduled, and I hope you will join me in committing to celebrate, alongside his family, this generous and well lived life when the time comes to do so. There likely is not a person around who loved Druid Hills Presbyterian Church more than Frank Merl. I hope that our care for the church and all who pass through her building is a reflection of his great legacy.
If you would like to be notified when the new date of the service is scheduled, please fill out this request.
Pastor Shelli Latham
P.S. — As you contemplate how to mark Frank’s life and death during this complicated time of pandemic:
- I encourage you to pause and pray while listening to this beautiful version of My Shepherd Will Supply My Need, which we had planned to sing on Saturday.
- And take hope in the words of Psalm 23: Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.
