“Still, Still, Still.” It’s the name of a Christmas carol and is also the theme for our new worship series and stewardship campaign: still still still. Coming from someone who is very much the no-Christmas-decorations-before-Thanksgiving type, it may seem a premature theme, but this year feels like one when some extra holy sparkle is necessary, plus the lullaby quality of the carol settles my spirit during these stressful days. (Click to listen to a rendition by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.) For the next month, we sink into the Psalms and explore the abiding promises of God who is still with us, who is still working to redeem the world, who still needs the church, and who still calls us into action.
This Sunday is a special one. We will celebrate All Saints’ Day and remember those from DHPC who have joined the church triumphant over the past year. We’ll also have an opportunity to worship on the lawn with one another or to join in worship in real time via Zoom. Please see these instructions for how to join us as safely as possible, whether at DHPC or from home.
I, for one, am excited, as this will be the first 11am in-person/live service we have celebrated since March. It feels remarkably normal despite the fact that you will be seated in a lawn chair versus our beautiful pews. The bells will be playing. We’ll engage in a mission activity around getting out the vote. And we’ll have socially-distanced fellowship over doughnuts (bring your own coffee). As we face a week that promises to be interesting, at the least, and potentially exhausting, stressful, exhilarating, and much more, I hope you will join us in rooting ourselves in the abiding promises of God, who is still . . . is always . . . with us.
Scripture: Psalm 139:8-18
Reflection: “God is Still With Us”
I look forward to seeing you on the lawn or from across the Zoom screen.
