I have been dragging my feet on writing this preview, mostly because I don’t quite know what to say. I am bleary eyed from hitting refresh over and over again on election results. It feels like the world is spinning in slow motion, and I, for one, am exhausted with the weight of our country’s future. So, I don’t know what word I will be bringing — not entirely — because I don’t know what reality we will awake to on Sunday morning.
Instead, I offer you this picture. This beloved child of God, Lily Mae Simpson, will be baptized on Sunday morning, and you can participate live via Zoom. As we explore our stewardship theme — still, still, still — the promise of God’s love for Lily which comes to her before she can ever begin to say God’s name or sing “Jesus Loves Me,” is the same love that promises us that God will always redeem the world in the end.
Psalm 46:10 says, ““Be still, and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.” And that is the message I hope we’ll hang on to throughout these anxiety producing days: settle down; rest in the Lord; God is in charge of this show.
Remember that worship will be streamed in real time via Zoom. Sign on a little before 11 AM to be ready to participate. You can sing, pray, and praise as the staff leads from the sanctuary.
Family of God, whatever happens this week, God is still, still, still working for the fulfillment of God’s dreams, God’s realm.
Scripture: Psalm 46
Reflection: “God’s Kin-dom is Still Coming”
Prayers for moments of stillness for you this week and the opportunity to be together on Sunday.
