My bet is that more than a few of you, like me, grew up singing “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.” Maybe you also did the sweet moves in Vacation Bible School, in which you mimicked driving a chariot and signing “coming for to carry me home” by holding up the numbers 4 and 2. (Check out this video for a bit of sweet nostalgia.) The song is born out of the story of Elijah being carried to heaven in a whirlwind (like a chariot). Elisha, Elijah’s protege is left standing on the banks of the Jordan, then picks up Elijah’s mantle and carries on his ministry.
Join us as we think about how we care for the legacy of faith entrusted to us. What is the role of the passer-onner and the one who will soon be called on to lead?
Scripture: 2 Kings 2:1-12
Reflection: “Transfer of Power”
We have a fancy new camera system in the sanctuary. Join our recorded service this week to see it in action. Even when we are back together in person, these new cameras will allow us to provide virtual worship for our faith family from week to week.
I look forward to worshipping with you by Facebook or Vimeo this week. (I’ll be at the Facebook premier at 10 AM, so consider joining me.) Let us glorify God together.
