Wednesday, October 28, 6:15PM: Ring In Christmas Handbell Choir for Beginners and Beyond
Are you looking to learn the music fundamentals? Have you always loved playing music? Or are you curious about whether you even can make music? Join us for six weeks starting this Wednesday, October 28th to try out handbells! These 6 1-hour handbell rehearsals will all lead up to playing a festive piece during worship on December 13th. Sunday, December 6, 12:00 PM: Holiday Lunch and Sanctuary Decorating
All are invited to join in on the fun of DHPC’s annual Advent Event! The festivities will take place following worship and will include lunch, a cookie bar, church decorating, mission opportunities, and a whole lot of fun. There is no cost for lunch, but please email Rev. Elizabeth Soileau Acton to register to assure we have enough food. It’s going to be a fun day so join us, and bring a friend!
Sunday, December 6, 12:30PM: DHPC Sandwich Ministry
Following the Advent Event lunch (see above), church and community members are invited to assist in making sandwiches for our hungry neighbors who receive care at Intown Cares and Clifton Sanctuary Ministries. Please plan to gather in the rear of the sanctuary to help.
Sunday, December 13, 1:30PM: Pews & Popcorn: Exploring Where Church and Culture Intersect
DHPC’s new Pews and Popcorn group will explore the intersection of media and faith (from a progressive Christian perspective). Participants will dig into popular culture to consider the spiritual, theological, and moral themes present. This group is for participants 18 and up. Join us on December 13 as we watch and discuss Elf. What can we learn about belonging, community, and welcoming the stranger from this jolly holiday classic? Join us to find out. Tasty snacks and toasty drinks included!
Sunday, December 20, 11:00AM: Special Music Worship with Lessons and Carols
Worship with us on the third Sunday in Advent for a beautiful celebration of scripture and music. The Chancel Choir is set to deliver a joyous musical experience, accompanied by special musicians, including the uplifting sounds of festive trumpets. Join us to celebrate the good news of hope breaking into a weary world as we hear the story of Christ’s birth through song and word!
Sunday, December 24: Christmas Eve - Jingle and Mingle, 4:30PM; Worship, 5:00PM
Join us on Christmas Eve for a pre-worship reception with cookies, cocoa, and community. Following Jingle and Mingle we will celebrate with hope and anticipation the good news of Jesus’ birth through our Christmas Eve candlelight and communion service. Bring your whole family or come alone and worship with your church family. Nursery care provided.
Sunday, December 6 - Sunday, December 24: Collection for Feet on the Street Shower Ministry
This Christmas season, DHPC is collecting donations for Feet on the Street, a local ministry that provides the opportunity for unhoused individuals to visit their shower truck to take a hot shower. This simple gift is more than soap and water. It is also a crucial step in restoring dignity and self-esteem. Please consider donating the following items: 3-in-1 shampoo conditioner & body wash, period products, ponchos, underwear, socks, black towels and/or washcloths, flip flops, and men’s tennis shoes. Items can be dropped off at the church office M - Th, 8a - 1p, or Sundays, 10a - 12p.
